PRESENTATION

Do you want to make “people” nouns? Add different endings to nouns and verbs. The most common are -er and -or, but other endings are possible: write (v) – writer, guitar (n) – guitarist, mountain (n) – mountaineer.

PRACTICE

I. Write the correct “people” nouns. Use the endings
- er, -or, -ist, – ian, -eer.

II. Use the words in capital letters at the end of each sentence to form the name of a job, as in the example.

Example: Someone who sells medicine in a chemist’s shop is a …pharmacist….. (PHARMACY)

1. …………… are people who deal with business finances.(ACCOUNT)
2. A …………. is a type of doctor who performs operations.(SURGERY)
3. A ………….. is a person who studies and works with plants. (BOTANY)
4. ……………. install cables and sockets in buildings. (ELECTRIC)

7. ………. is a general word for someone who designs bridges, airplanes, cars, computers and many other things. (ENGINE)
8. A person who repairs your car is a ………….. (MECHANISM)

PRODUCTION

I. Work in pairs. Read four definitions from Ex.II. Ask your partner to name the jobs corresponding to them.
II. a) Make a list of three jobs you’d like and three jobs you wouldn’t like to do. Don’t write them in order;
b) Show your list to your partner. Ask him/her to guess which jobs you’d like to do and which jobs you’d hate to do;
c) Compare and discuss your choices.
